Monks Hall Field School
Monks Hall is a a medieval manor built on a silt island in the Lincolnshire Fens. The manor was owned by the Abbeys of Peterborough and Swineshead from as early as the 10th century and remains a working farm. Last summer’s finds ranged from the 10th to the 19th century. Now the farm hosts our field school led by highly experienced professional archaeologists, with decades of expertise collaborating with universities and commercial enterprises. Our curriculum has been carefully developed in partnership with universities and heritage organisations to help students acquire the essential skills needed for a successful career in archaeology. In 2024, we provided training to students from leading universities, including UCL, Cambridge, York, Nottingham and Leicester.
Come stay in historic Spalding!
We have put together a special package for international students to make it as easy as possible to join our field school from overseas. Stay in a lovely house in the centre of the historic market town of Spalding (about a 90 minute train from London) with other overseas students. In addition to the training program and accommodation we’ll handle transfers to and from site everyday. You will have access to a full kitchen and there are many local food shops, restaurants and pubs within walking distance. There are also several local museums with whom we have organised special tours and workshops. This package is £3,500 for the whole field school 29th June – 27th July, accommodation in a double room, self catering, daily transfers to site included.
